I choose to use /local instead of the conventional /mnt. I do have a
/mnt which is a symbolic link to /local.  I also have a /<machine_name>
for each machine on my LAN with the same subdirectories as /local for
mounting remote filesystems.

Assuming you are not using supermount then /etc/fstab must contain:

/dev/scd0  /local/scd0 iso9660 user,exec,noauto,defaults 0 0
/dev/scd1  /local/scd1 iso9660 user,exec,noauto,defaults 0 0

As root, you will have to mkdir scd0 and scd1 off your /mnt.

Your /etc/fstab stanzas must contain:

append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi "
with the appropriate hd names then as root run lilo.

Then reboot, check dmesg, and use kdiskfree (kdf) to verify things are
OK visually and by using kdf to mount a CD on each mount point.

cdrecord operates directly on the device so a CD should not be mounted
for burning a CD.
