maybe instead of just typing "rescue", try
"rescue devfs=mount hdb=ide-scsi nopentium noAPIC"
or some variants of it. seems like nopentium and noAPIC
is some good candidates. personally I'd start with just
"rescue nopentium noAPIC"
not tried, might be wrong, break everything etc. someone
correct me on this...
