Try adding "acpi=off", but that's just a shot in the dark.
I have had several flawless installs of Mandrake 9.0 on many different
machines. Yesterday, I had my first problem child. The init script
rc.sysinit bombed when trying to start usb because the / was still
mounted ro. I recall something about this a while back on Cooker, but
the details escaped me. Since I only have a PS/2 keyboard/mouse, I
simply commented the lines out that were trying to start it. Then the
boot process proceeded like normal.
