I finally managed to get kde 3 back...my 3.0.3 install was dorked in some
unknown way so I went to kde 3.0.5 only to find that one mandrake src rpm was
missing from this security fix version (to at least 3.0.4): kdegraphics was
missing. I ended up building all the mdk rpms that I did have plus building
and installing the kde.org kdegraphics src. It is all working fine now.

One thing I noticed right away and it just drives me crazy. I don't know if
it is mandrake or kde that is still doing this but PLEASE, Mandrake, take it
on yourselves to fix it? There IS no konsole-noxft. With every single kde
install since 2.2.2, trying to start a konsole from the kpanel ALWAYS fails
because the system "cannot find konsole-noxft". Why oh why must the panel
entry always default to trying to execute the pointless and bogus
"konsole-noxft"? Editing the preferences for the kpanel app konsole is only
a temporary fix because after changing the execute entry to the working and
correct "konsole", the next login or at some random login after, the execute
command will magically revert back to konsole-noxft.

This command is pointless, broken, and has existed longer than it should.
Please fix it in the Mandrake distro. If it is there because of some
nonsensical duty-bound feeling of the kde team, override them and make it
correct and make it go away. It does not do much for spit and polish of the
Mandrake distro for apps such as this to be broken right out of the
box...version release after version release after version release. It
doesn't work with the konsole-noxft command!

Thank you for your time...please do the right thing and fix it finally.
