Reiser 3.5 and 3.6 can handle up to 17.6 Terrabyte in a single filesystem. (check www.namesys.com) Practically speaking this is also the maximum file size, which is logical given the partition size.
So it shouldn't be reiser... maybe the drive is malfunctioning, or it is not supported by your BIOS (that large). This used to be the case with 2-4 GB drivers in 486's or early pentiums. The manufacturers often get arround this by installing some low-level driver. Unfortunately these are often incompatible with *NIX. Maybe you can try JFS, XFS or EXT3 to check?
