Matt - I think the issue here is that the first man entry is for section 1 in the manual and the second is for a function in section 3 that's perl-specific. One would think that section 1 (i.e., user commands) are displayed before section 3 items. Of course you can override, i.e., 'man 3 version' should bring up the second entry.
