You know this is gonna sound stupid but really just try reinstalling the
base os. It's kinda overkill but atleast it garauntees that you
"in-theory"TM should work fine.

have you checked all the volume levels and input devices that are
connected to the computer (that are not controlled by aumix?) I
mistakenly plugged the other end of my cable into the wrong port on my
receiver by accident once... I felt stupid for days.
