Hi,
Here goes:
Current state of box:
80G hd, 512M RAM, Celeron1100, GeForce4
hda1 Win_C
hda5 Win_D
hda6 Linux swap
hda7 old Linux
hda8 old Linux
hda9 9.0
hda10 9.0
hda7/8 are old installations and the space is dispensable
hda9/10 is my working installation with ReiserFS
There's another 20G of free space available.
Started with expert mode installation
a) Mouse wheel would not work, tested all options. In 9.0 I chose
PS/2 Generic Wheelmouse and it worked (Logitech)
b) In the partitioning screen I created a new partition (hda11) to
be mounted on / with ext3 filesystem. After hitting "Format" it
echoed: "no partition hda11 available".
Reproduced that 3 times.
I then chose hda7 to be / with ext3. This worked.
c) Packet selection: the inner screen for individual packet
selection is cut off at the bottom so you cannot click on "OK" or
"Next" or whatever is supposed to start installation. F12 (next
screen) doesn't work here.
Started all over in text mode.
Same issues as in a) and b).
Packet selection did not give me the "individual" option. When
installation commenced I realized that although I unmarked GNOME it
installed all GNOME packets.
There was an error: "Error while installing packet kernel-...."
I opted to go on.
Rest of the installation and post-installation went ok until it
came to bootloader installation.
I chose to install it in the boot record of the partition. After
that it showed the small screen with all informations (country,
soundcard, etc.). From there it went into a loop. Whatever I tried
(TAB, ENTER, F12, ESC) all brought me to one of the configuration
tools for one of the listed items. Had to hit the reset button. I
was surprised that it still worked, had not used it for a loooong
time.
d) No X configuration (or does that come after the point where I
was "looped"?
I don't know where the error during installation of the kernel packet
comes from. The CD is ok, ISO downloaded with wget, burned with
cdrecord and md5sum checked.
I'll have another try tomorrow.
