All the points you bring up are hardly new. "Mandrake Out of Control?" is a 
wrong statement. Mandrake has _always_ had a 6 month release cycle. Their 
release philosophy has always been to keep packages binary compatible accross 
major versions (ie. as it relates to glibc & gcc). Otherwise the newest, 
greatest software has always been included, and from a power-users point of 
view this is a good thing, and it is why I believe that Mandrake is so big 
with technically inclined non-guru users.
