This is getting OT, but when I first started using linux I encountered
this vi/emacs thing and wanted no part of it. I wanted windows-like
editors such as gedit, kedit etc. But slowly over time I found
occasions when I needed to use them, marvelled at their power, got used
to the fact that they were different, and now they are all I use: emacs
for LaTeX, interacting with mysql and R, etc and vi for little things
and email from within mutt (which is the result of a similar revelation:
eudora on windows -> kmail -> evolution -> pine -> kmail -> evolution ->
mutt).

I am not a sysadmin, just a simple desktop user, no macho stuff for me,
I just find that these editors are both very powerful and fast.
