Sorry, no guru here so no idea too :-(( 

But... when I want to open a full kde2 environment through command I do:
1) kwin & (window manager)
2) kdeinit & (some basic kde stuff)
3) kicker & (panel bar)
4) kdesktop & (obvious)

Might be this solves about missing render...
