I am thoroughly confused.  I thought you were talking about an ide 
hard disk?  The hdc=ide-scsi refers to a cdrom or cd-rw at hdc, 
because you have to use scsi-emulation to burn cds.

If it was indeed a hdd, then you do not want that statement.  If it's 
just left over from the old cd-rom, just remove it.

It sounds to me as though the hdd may not be formatted.  Have you 
tried going into mcc > mount points and seeing if there is a tab 
there.  I wouldn't be surprised to find that it is recognised as 
being physically there, but not yet in a state to be mounted.  If 
that is so you can partition/format it from there, set the mount 
points, and all should be well.
