Most probably the Kernel and linked tools, Libraries will be the tricky
parts. I'm pretty sure that backporting lots of stuff from Mdk9.x would
work - but if I have to backport - I could also use something else and
learn to use it (well - the OS/Distribution specific parts) - guess that
on the way a Linux system is working should be assimilated by now ;)
