that's it... they way it looks that is.  What it is, is the file that
will become the new updatedb once it's "complete" one gets moved to the
other.

Wait a sec... had an epiphany...(or gas, not sure) ... doesn't slocate
use the sleep cat dbs?  aka db1 db2 etc etc.  If these are bad maybe
that's the problem.  A script the other day was submitted that might
find out if anything is bad/missing in this area.

towards the bottom Maxim  took what I had for finding missing files and
put it into a script that does things a tad bit nicer and a whole lot
faster.  Run this against your box tonight let it run while you sleep if
it's going to take a while... why not) and see if it spits back
anything.  Might help... might not.
