Anne,
This is what I think of when someone talks to me about elegance
in programming. I really hate to hear that word spoken around working
programs that need to be modified in a minor way. To me it usually
means
1. I can't read code and figure out what it's doing, but I writes code
real good like. (translation: that bug fix will take 6 months while I
rewrite your entire code base.)
2. The guy who invented that language is an idiot. My religion has a
higher god than his. ( translation: I can't understand the logic
constructs in that language so I've got another one I think I can
program in.)AKA My language is cooler than your language.
3. Lack of research to see if what they are inventing already exists.
(translation: I didn't know about that tool you are using... the one
with the bug eyes... yeah yeah google that's it.)
I often refer to this disease as the M$ syndrome, or, the NIBM(not
invented by me) so it can't be any good, problem.
