When you did cd one did you chose the option to "mount existing sytem
under m

rescue system.  Another option when the lilo screen (assuming you use
lilo, I'm not sure on grub) come up hit escape and at the prompt choose
linux (or your kernel name) -s.  This will b

I've tried both of these options.  I thought single user mode would allow
me to do it, but I'm still getting 'access denied'.  It won't let me run
vi - access denied.  I can't log in as root in rescue mode because it doesn't
recognise the password.  I cam log in as anne, but I can't save to /etc.

I am at the moment in 9.0, where I tried mounting hde7 as /mnt/Mdk91, in
the hope that I could put it right there, but the mountpoint seems to be
made, but I can't list any files in it.

I'm trying to think logically, but frankly I'm panicking.
