In rescue mode, have it mount your partitions under /mnt, prior to going
to the console prompt. This should be an option on t
>e rescue system's
"menu".

Your root partition should then mount as /mnt/hdXY. Your /etc/fstab file
is then accessible as /mnt/hdXY/etc/fstab.

All I can get is access denied.  I'll write a longer answer about what I've
tried in reply to James' post
