It worked, thanks!

Now I'm fighting with the modem, it connects to the internet and it's 
able to ping an address (I had only my public IP and the PPP server 
IP, I tried both of them) but it's impossible to reach any site, so it 
must be a DNS problem.

Probable correct. Check the /etc/resolv.conf file to verify the entries 
for "nameserver".
