Hi Luca,

I tried it. The system didn't start the saslauthd telling it's a not supported
method. And - if I check - the /usr/lib/sasl/smtpd.conf file - I had to
create it. Didn't exist before. But it does not make a difference.
Using Mandrake 9.1 - it seems not beeing there. The method used seems to be
defined by /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd where you can set the:
SASL_AUTHMECH=pam
var - with anything of the output from saslauthd -v which gives me:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# saslauthd -v
saslauthd 2.1.12
authentication mechanisms: getpwent kerberos5 pam rimap shadow ldap

However - checking for pwcheck - it's started by the saslauthd start-script:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# ps aux | grep pwcheck
root 7659 0.0 0.1 1568 304 ? S Sep03 0:00 pwcheck
root 27169 0.0 0.2 1708 604 pts/0 R 10:50 0:00 grep pwcheck

Maybe someone could compare the sasl-packages I've go installed with what he
has running:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] sysconfig]# rpm -qa | grep sasl
libsasl2-2.1.12-1mdk
cyrus-sasl-2.1.12-1mdk
libsasl7-plug-plain-1.5.28-5mdk
libsasl7-plug-digestmd5-1.5.28-5mdk
libsasl2-plug-plain-2.1.12-1mdk
libsasl2-plug-gssapi-2.1.12-1mdk
libsasl2-plug-digestmd5-2.1.12-1mdk
libsasl2-plug-crammd5-2.1.12-1mdk
libsasl7-1.5.28-5mdk
libsasl7-plug-gssapi-1.5.28-5mdk
libsasl7-plug-crammd5-1.5.28-5mdk

So - I have pretty much both version installed - the cyrus-sasl however is
2.1.12 ... Anything I did wrong here ?

So - after restarting the postfix process, removing the chauth env. for the
smtp process, of course restarting the saslauthd - And trying the login
paintext using the base64 encoded auth-string - here is what comes in syslog:
Sep 5 11:02:52 sun postfix/smtpd[27940]: connect from
pandora.solsys.org[10.0.2.47]
Sep 5 11:02:58 sun postfix/smtpd[27940]: warning: SASL authentication
problem: unrecognized plaintext verifier pwcheck
Sep 5 11:02:58 sun postfix/smtpd[27940]: warning:
pandora.solsys.org[10.0.2.47]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed

So - definilty something groovy happening. Anyone has another idea of what I
could check ?
Note that I have postfix running with cyrus-imapd pretty well, and
spamassassin/Anomyser.

Thx for any hints.

        Joerg
