I once again rebooted and after that I looked in the Mandrake CC which showed eth0 as 'up' with an assigned IP which matched the one in the router's display. But no connection possible! I called up the wizard to set eth0 and it found the card and also my host name. I told it to use dhcp and when the wizard applied the settings I saw eth0 change to 'down'. The wizard told me that everything is fine and my network is now ready to use! Bah! Can't get that thing to work! Must be a software thing because I started an old Mandrake 9.0 installation on the same machine and the network connection was up in a minute. wobo
