gaim no workee, solved with a symlink:
ln -s /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.1/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/libperl.so
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/

this is clearly due to upgrading instead of installing, sometime I'll
hunt down the duplicate perl package and whack it.

rsjog no workee, ruby-gtk isn't on the distribution. I've installed it
from rpmfind, but it's still not working -- will take to cooker later.
