The crazy thing is that under 9.0, k3b could handle the ide cd drive 
and xcdroast couldn't.  Now it seems to be the other way round.  
Although it has an old-fashioned look I personally have always got on 
well with xcdroast, and my ide drive is also my dvd drive.  
Everything functions well as it is, so I have no intentions of 
upsetting anything by using scsi-em with that drive - it simply isn't 
worth it.

Anyway, that's probably irrelevant to this thread.  I just wanted to 
suggest that it was worth looking at xcdroast, since if that does 
work it rules out some possible causes, like problems with the basic 
burning packages.
