Well, if push gets to shove, take the approach that you bought a general purpose computer -- not an appliance that only ran with one specific OS. IIRC, Dell's ads say something to the effect, "Dell recommends that you use MS Windows XP"; they do not warn you that it will not work properly in the manner that you expected with another OS.
