Actually, I *did* get problems when using the RPMs available for
Mandrake 9.1 (or was it Cooker at the time? It's been a while). Not on
the Mandrake machine itself, but my home directory is mounted from a
file server and I use it on several different machines: Solaris
8/Sparc, Red Hat Linux 7.3, Aurora Sparc Linux 1.0 and Mandrake Linux
9.1. After I installed the RPMs, OO would crash on the RHL 7.3
machines when using it as that cross-platform user. I tracked it down
to something in the personal config files, but wasn't able to find out
the exact reason. In the end, I ended up dumping the RPMs and
installing from the same official installer I had used on the RHL 7.3
machines as well. After that, I was able to use OO on all machines.
Hence, in a multiplatform environment, not using the RPMs might be of
advantage.
Cheerio,
