I see you got your solution, but if anyone else can't get it to stop that way: The issue with firebird is even worse: there's some sort of google search that i couldn't seem to turn off. And when i did 127.0.0.1, i got the same, which i couldn't figure out. Or does the /etc/hosts file work both ways: 127.0.0.1 turns into localhost? Anyway, my solution was to run webmin on bootup.
