It takes 3 things for the engine to run. 1. Fuel 2. Air 3. Properly timed spark
There are 4 electrical items on the 494 1. Coil 2. CDI Box 3. Ignition Trigger 4. Stator While I am certain there are test parameters for each of these items, I am no electrically competent. So the first thing I do is to check the trigger...it is under the plastic cover on the recoil side of the engine...has it broken? NO! Second thing, change the coil, does the engine run? If yes you are done; if not change the CDI Box. Does the engine run? If yes you are done; if not the only thing left to change is the stator - which requires removing the recoil starter, and flywheel from the engine. One other thing to check, Is the Rotary Valve rotating....if not the gear for this has stripped and will have to be replaced....for this the engine has to be torn down. Hopefully, your problems is limited to the trigger, coil or CDI box. Tony Murphy (661)944-1624 has all the necessary parts in stock and also has the special tools that will be needed for stator pulling and replacement as well as what is necessary to repair the rotary valve gear, if that happens to be the problem.
