Have to agree that Grassroots is a better recruiting tool than Sportscar. Anyone with friendly contacts in C&D, R&T, Automobile, etc? Grassroots had a brief period about five years ago when I was still a subscriber where they favored F5 for a good class to start and good cost vs money. Too bad they never got into the cars much. A project section in the magazine where they buy/build/rebuild/etc and race a car would be very good to spark interest.

Tell them it's affordable (IT classes) using your own skill and knowledge to build a car. Of course this also angers me at the same time. I've been a member since 1982 and I have yet to see a info booth at an SCCA event to explain or recruit new people. YES, I do believe that Topeka should be more involved other than promoting it from our own magazine which if you're a member you already get. I'll keep talking to anyone who will listen and I'm very proud to say that I have aided many friends into getting a comp lic. or autocross, ...whatever it takes. I have seriously thought about recruiting from the local High Schools. Had I know I could race legally and safely (back in the day and in NJ) I would have saved myself the pain and cost of Traffic tickets and suspensions. I'd like to think that increasing the overall membership would increase our own car counts but that's not enough. Talk it up and as my old boss used to say, "be sincere, even if you have to fake it" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: While I agree that more effort can be made to bring F500 to the attention of the racing community, I don't believe that putting an ad in the SCCA publication is cost effective. The people who are racing already have a favorite class and car, and, I feel, are not likely to change to something they may view as a 'lower class'. I don't belong to SCCA and would not see an ad placed there. A much larger audience is available through a magazine like GrassRoots Motor Sports magazine. Ads placed there will attract new racers to the class. Submit an article covering the history of F500, with lots of photos to attract the reader's eye. The article should cover the performance of our class in relation to the other classes, and the relative low cost. I suspect that it might cost as much to build a spec Miata as it costs to purchase a used track proven F500. Another possibility is to place ads for the F500 web site. It is such a wealth of information. That is what turned me on to F500. I saw an ad in a local paper, and curiosity made me search for information in the Internet, where I found the F500 site. I had never heard of F500 before. I use my car for autocrosses and Time Trials. It's an '89 Red Devil with a Kawasaki 440. Whenever people ask about the car, I talk up the class and national and regional competition. I've let other drivers try out the car at autocrosses. I haven't seen any changes yet, but hopefully some of these drivers will consider F500 for their next class.
