I disagree wholeheartedly, Chuck.
I think the torque should be 55 ft/lb. And, exactly how much Anti-Seize do
you use?
Seriously, I agree that a torque wrench should not be used to apply the
clutch bolt.

When it comes to putting the clutch on....I never use an impact
wrench.....Torque Wrench only....50 ft/lb.
I also put a dab of anti-seize on the crank snout when putting the
clutch on.
I will use my electric impact wrench to remove the clutch bolt and I
will use it as the first attempt in using the clutch puller. If the
clutch doesn't pop on the first attempt (clutch puller stopped some
distance from the crank before firing up the impact wrench, so the
puller has a 'running start' to pop the clutch off) then I bring out the
breaker bar and muscle to pop the clutch.
I am running the same Rotax 494 that I started using in 1997.

I'll disagree and say it's ok to use impacts on the clutch.
I just don't see it "flat spotting" the rod bearings, granted if you
could hold every thing in one position and hammer the air gun long
enough you might manage to create a wear spot on a bearing but in the
real world I doubt it.
To me the danger would involve thread stripping the clutch with a high
output impact and an idiot operator.
(yes I have been the idiot a few times over the years but not with a
clutch ) I always put a dab of antisieze on the puller threads and the
tip of the puller that hits the crank snout, I would recommend caution
if you tighten the clutch bolt with a impact...very easy to over torque
it.
That said I always use an impact even when installing the clutch Dave
Phaneuf.........the caveman ,get a bigger hammer mechanic!
