First - Look for looseness in tie rod ends, bearings, steering rack, etc. If any of these components are bad nothing else you do will help enough to solve the problem, and you can't accurately set up the car with loose joints.

Next - what are your suspension & alignment settings? Caster makes a big difference in steering effort, and toe out (commonly used to get fast turn-in in Solo II) can make your car feel unstable at higher speeds. Ditto if the front and rear aren't properly lined up; higher speeds make this effect worse.

Third - tire pressures? Tread temperatures? Did you run long and hard enough to get them up to temp?

Fourth - How do you have your corner weights set?

Fifth - How much rake are you running?

Subject: Re: [F500] top end shakes

Took my 86 red deviel to the track yesterday. This is the first time I've done high speed in it. Had the sensation of loosing control at about 100 or so. The steering seemed loose and very easy did not have a lot of tire bounce. But the car seemed very squirrely the faster I went. Just woundering where to start to look. Also the car felt very loose in the rear end mostly at high speed.
Thanks Rory the newwbe
