Ever look at some of these older F5's? You think a SAE looks scary!!!

Most of them are put in the trash and engines and other parts are reused. I
have been told that if any are sold on the New England area, they can only
be sold to former students that were in the program and/or aluminest. Also
WPI brings cars to the event many times as do a few other schools, some of
which are a few years old along with the current model. I have never seen
one fail at our Solo II events only a motor problem. And our Region will
let three or four students drive them even if we have to put them in
different heats. They are fun to drive, although I drove one in a somewhat
wet course, but the shifting is not as easy as everyone thinks and you shift
many more times that a car with a Hewland. I found it easier to learn to
shift a Hewland in my old FF!

The reason I have been told that they will not sell them in this part of the
country is the schools are affraid of a "Products Liability Claim" if
someone was to get hurt in the car, even if it wasn't their fault, just the
bad image of a Brown U, WPI, etc being sued over racing. Many of the people
who hear of these programs do not understand that many of them go on to
design their family car.
Now you know why the American Car Companies are in trouble. Sorry Jay I
needed to get that out! When Detriot stops letting accountants like me
deside how a car is to be built, things will get better!

Sorry I got a little of the path!

well i suggest you actually look at an sae car before you even think about
something like that, they are made for one day use and it shows on a lot of
them ,the thought of going more than 60 in one is just plain scary, and i
have attended many of the sae contests here in pontiac michigan i have seen
em all, there aren't many that would even finish! that is definately not an
option for f500
