John - one important consideration that I haven't seen mentioned here is
the weight balance of the car. You've met George, are you of similar size?

About the same weight, although I might e a bit vertically challenged by comparison. ;-)

Before you spend money on tires, get the car onto a good set of scales and
make sure your balance is right

Good advice. I'll see to that in the near future.

You'll also want to check the brake bias after you set the weight. Is
there a proportioning valve on the car?

Yes, I think it will need a bit of work to get it to function properly. There is one component that is seized up still. I've got all the rest freed up.

Finally, if you're buying new tires consider setting up the car with the
fat rims & tires all the way around. It dramatically improves the auto-x
performance. If you have the spilt rims it's pretty easy to mix & match
rim halves.
