Well Jim you let the restricted budget go out the window years ago. A lot
of people will tell you that the cost of a National Solo V is like running a
FF. I got out of Solo V because it is not a budget car. My Solo V was a
fun car but I found out about the real budget cars, F440/F500. People who
want to run a Solo V will spend a lot of money to make them fast unless they
can do all the work themselves including building the motors. The frames
and other parts come apart because they were not designed to take the HP
many of them are making. Even the solid D13 in my region broke its trailing
arms and the new one's are made of much stronger tubing and it was a very
expense job for them to be built and installed. It recall it was more than
the price of a new Rotax 493!
So my final statement on this subject is if people want to run Solo V's that
are as fast as a good F500 let them take out an equity loan on their house
to pay for it, not make us change GCR legal modern race cars, that don't use
parts from 1937 VW Bugs. An if anyone is wondering why I keep saying 1937
that is because that is how far back the VW parts go in design, excluding
the newer 1600 duel port engine. Or instead of doing that next new pro
engine, they could buy a nice KBS/Invader F500 with a Rotax and most likely
have enough money left over to do a mild rebuild on the 1600 dual port and
use the car for fun events!

Subject: [F500] Bobby J - Equity on a Budget
Bobby,
Please remember the prime directive for the F Mod class = Equity between
the SV's and the F440/500's on a restricted budget. This is the way I and
the others first wrote the rules and this is what eveyone here must abide
by. We need both groups to keep the numbers up and make F Mod a viable
class. Any proposal to accomplish anything else will only hurt this class
and must be dismissed.
Jim
