Chuck, I couldn't agree more!

I guess I don't understand why everyone is wanting to reinvent the class
at this point. Some of the ideas are very worthwhile (starter options,
thermostat, etc.) but I don't understand the engine, gearbox, shocks,
springs, etc.

Chris R. - Not to pick on you (too much!), but you are trying to
spearhead a lot of pretty major changes to the class... How long have
you had an F500? How many races have you done in an F500 prepared to
current rules?

I understand your Karting experience, but I for one (and many others)
don't want to rebuild my car to stay competitive. If this happens, I'm
out. I'm sure I am not the only one.

Phil

Subject: RE: [F500] Write the Shock Rule

That's a great selling point, but who's buying the 14 cars in the
classifieds? It "was" a ingenious concept for the time, but it's dated.
I think that's the point. It's not about tailoring it to anyones
liking, it's bringing the class into the 1990's at least!!!
I dread a very long string of emails.......

It has always amazed me how the newcomers to a class, any class in
SCCA, always want to reinvent the class to their liking (so it will be
'easier' for them to win - since they have 'expertise' in the changes
they want).

The hallmarks of F440/F500, since 1984 at least, have been -

2 stroke, water cooled 440/500cc engine
CVT Transmission
Suspension medium = Elastomer 1" thick x 2" diameter
10 inch wheels
80" maximum wheelbase
55" maximum width

The basic concepts of the class have worked well for the past 22 years
and I don't see any compelling reason for those hallmarks to be changed
at this time. F500 is not 'just another Formula class' at present and if
it were to become 'just another Formula class' it would become totally
invisible in the plethora of the other Formula classes.

F500 is what it is!

The biggest bang for the buck in SCCA racing!
