Chuck -
I can't believe what you just wrote. Apparently you have not been reading
the threads on ApexSpeed.com in the FF and FC categories (as well as
F1000)regarding replacing the old
1600Kent engine and using newer motors such as the Zetec and Duratech as
replacements.
Right now the problem with the Zetech is the restrictions placed on this
motor by the SCCA while they figure out what is needed to not completely
obsolete the old Pinto motor and the Duratech is a bit heavier and bigger
than the 1600Kent engine for the FF.
I know for me going to a 4 stroke would be a blessing as all of my engine
building and tuning experience was with 4 strokes and I do not know much
about the 2 strokes at all. Perhaps a better argument for you would have
been to refer to FV instead of FF and FC as continuing to use old style
engines.

Bobby,
You and I will be too old to drive by the time F500 2-strokes are no longer
serviceable.
The 4-stroke equivalent stuff is bigger, heavier for what it does and isn't
any quieter.
The Kaw 436cc motor is still 100% maintainable and it has been out of
production for about 27 years.
Doesn't matter what the new stuff is.
We simply don't need it.
FF1600 and FF2000 get along just fine w/out new motors.
Probably 40 years since a Cortina 1600 was available in a new car(sled).
New FF1600 cars are sold just fine by the mfg. w/out a car to source a new
motor out of.
The Zetec powered FC is no great seller.
The FF2000 Pinto 2L motor wil probably get an aftermarket aluminum head
soon (like the Cortina 1600 did), so it shall probably be serviceavle
forever and continue as the most popular FF2000 variation ever.
Artic Cat and Polaris are dong fine with their 2-strokes.
The 2008 service manuals are due out in 3 weeks.
They cover all the 2-stroke sleds they still make (about 4-6 different ones
each)

Was at the local Honda/Suzuki checking on see if the 2007 bike I ordered
was
in yet. Would like to ride it a little before the real bad weather.
I was talking to one of the owners, they also sell Yamaha and Bombardier
watercraft (summer cousins to snowmobile). We got talking about which
engines we currently use and he asked me what are you guys going to do for
new
engines after 2008 when Bombardier is scheduled to stop making 2-Stroke
CVT
equipped Snowmobile's and all their models will by then be replaced with
4-Stroke CVT equipped engines. I said don't ask!
This is a rather small shop but they had almost every model of Honda and
Suzuki motorcycle. The only 2-stroke engine thing he had in the shop was
one
model of Yamaha Watercraft! Something to again think about. I would say
if
you go to a former NER f500 divers place of employment in Mass. where they
sell many Bombardier Snowmobile's he would say the same thing.
Not trying to get people pissed off, but time waits for no man and time is
flying by us! We are several years behind the curve. Motocross is almost
fully switched to 4-stroke bikes. Watercraft and outboard motors are not
far
behind!
Starting to talk about it without everyone blowing a fuse is the only way
for
all you younger people to keep this class going. I and others are near
the
end of the game, but still care deeply about a class that has brought us
so
much fun and friendship for a reasonable price. Plus you can't put a
price on
all the great people we have met in person or talked to on this site!
Everyone have a good and safe holiday season!

#15 Fmod NER SCCA
PS: This is not about 4-stroke bike engines for our class. This is only
about thinking about 4-stroke CVT equipped Rotax Snowmobile Engines even
if it
takes five (5) or more years of careful planning!
