Of course maybe that is why GM is in big trouble! If I had the money I
would buy a luxury home next to it, as long as my land had a direct paved
road to the test track! Hell I would even buy a Corvette for the customer
track use!!!!
And thanks for the weather report, only 77! If it was 77 here in Rhode
Island I would be at the beach with my dog Samantha!

Yup, that be the proving grounds.
Back when GM thought it would have been cheaper to operate in Mexico, GM
tried to ditch the AZ proving grounds here for big time cash by trying to
get it rezoned for luxury homes.
No way Mesa would rezone because of possible future complaints from home
owners about noise. Mesa wants to protect city income from growing the
airport as a commercial/freight center.
I think GM should have applied for zoning it as a race track community
with garages that all connected to the test track and big skid pads :->
Seems like everyone is over the opposite end of the valley this weekend at
PIR for the NASCAR racing.
Chilly this weekend and overcast-looks like snow in the air. Only a high
of 77 today.

Chuck, just got on GoogleEarth! William AFB is the one you mentioned once
before I think. Also that is the GM proving grounds to the North East of
the base isn't it, which you also mentioned before?

Bobby,
On Palmer, that would be great.
You need to get the city gov behind protecting it by not allowing housing
next to it to ensure its long term success.
Out here, the Mesa city gov has resricted new housing devlopment next to
the defunct Williams AFB. (Pristine super wide concrete runways (no
frost out here) big enough to land C-5's with room to spare.
They are doing that to protect the income to the city as
commercial/passenger air traffic increases there.

Well the NER is only assured that we will have Deven's for 2007. After
the government turns most of the old Fort Deven's over to the town, they
are going to vote if they want to make it a township of it's own. We
have been told if that happens it will be developed! We heard a rumor
one year that only cars that could be driven to the event and had valid
registrations could run at the site. The state police have a motor pool
there. They band the shifter karts because they thought they were to
fast with no roll bars and seat belts. Are only hope is the track that
the NER wants to build at the old Palmer Airport which will be built
with a lot big enough for Solo II!

It looks like the debate shouldn't be 2 stroke vs 4 stroke, but if
there will be a place to race either????
I think Jay said something about wearing blinders???

Sure sounds like a great Solo II combo!
Thanks Chris
Also I am not trying to scare people, just passing on information that
everyone needs to hear!
Lack of knowledge and not sharing it is a dangerous thing!

Also, Chuck is correct, by the time F500 goes to 4-stroke neither of us
will
most likely be driving one! Sure would be nice to go out on a Sunday
and
see a Solo II event and see several Invaders, Arrows, Novakar, etc.
racing
around with 4-stroke engines.
Not trying to start trouble by saying this, but many of the guys who
drive
stock street cars with factory mufflers would love to see all the mod
cars
go away, well at least in New England. Were starting to feel like the
bad
boy motorcycle gang type because we still want to drive formula cars at
Solo
II Events!!!!

Couple of key things in this thread please be aware.
Motocross aka the AMA does not "Mandate" 4 cycles, yes there are near
twice the displacement, but everybody knows the power pulse
mathematics
from 4 to 2 stroke 1/2. The reason for the dominance of 4 cycles is
the
fact that they are faster for a number of reasons. In a motocross bike
it's not about top speed or massive horse power, its corner to corner,
or
corner to jump acceleration, and it's also about traction.
However there are lakes that "Mandate" 4 cycle or electric only...

Was at the local Honda/Suzuki checking on see if the 2007 bike I
ordered
was
in yet. Would like to ride it a little before the real bad weather.
I was talking to one of the owners, they also sell Yamaha and
Bombardier
watercraft (summer cousins to snowmobile). We got talking about which
engines we currently use and he asked me what are you guys going to
do
for
new
engines after 2008 when Bombardier is scheduled to stop making
2-Stroke
CVT
equipped Snowmobile's and all their models will by then be replaced
with
4-Stroke CVT equipped engines. I said don't ask!
This is a rather small shop but they had almost every model of Honda
and
Suzuki motorcycle. The only 2-stroke engine thing he had in the shop
was
one
model of Yamaha Watercraft! Something to again think about. I would
say
if
you go to a former NER f500 divers place of employment in Mass. where
they
sell many Bombardier Snowmobile's he would say the same thing.
Not trying to get people pissed off, but time waits for no man and
time
is
flying by us! We are several years behind the curve.
Motocross is almost fully switched to 4-stroke bikes.
Only because it is mandated and your didn't mention that the 4-stroke
dirt
bikes have engines twice the displacment of the 2-strokes to be
competitive.
Watercraft and outboard motors are not far
behind!
Starting to talk about it without everyone blowing a fuse is the only
way
for
all you younger people to keep this class going. I and others are
near
the
end of the game, but still care deeply about a class that has brought
us
so
much fun and friendship for a reasonable price. Plus you can't put a
price
on
all the great people we have met in person or talked to on this site!
Everyone have a good and safe holiday season!

PS: This is not about 4-stroke bike engines for our class. This is
only
about thinking about 4-stroke CVT equipped Rotax Snowmobile Engines
even
if
it
takes five (5) or more years of careful planning!
