Marshall --If you look at Gil's original post near the bottom they have
numbered the race groups they will be using. I believe the parenthetic "open
wheel" refers to the fact that these classes in #9 are open wheel( and thus
the ONLY open wheels they will be running). I agree that it would be
extremely tough to be a DC Region member right now if one was driving the
other open wheel classes. I wonder what SCCA Enterprises take is on this as
regards FSCCA cars? How does a new driver that hasn't got a National license
get his regionals in without extensive travel in order to race the FSCCA
nationally (since he can't run in the MARRS races)or is he not allowed to
take schjools and do regionals in such a car?

Chuck - see below. Notice the part about 'regionally restrict'. I think
you were right the first time - the big bore open-wheels are gone. For
FSCCA,
FS, and F1000, this is a disaster.
Ya know, as a driver who has been an active racing member in 4 different
regions (Tennessee, Oregon, Steel Cities, and now WDC), I find the idea
that a
region would completely drop a class absolutely terrible. How will a
member
feel if he moves into our area only to find that he can't race with us
because
we have 'restricted' his class? FM is one of the most popular classes in
the SCCA; while I understand that the participation level in MARRS hasn't
been
what we would like, I can't help but feel that there will be people who
get a
very raw deal out of this.
My personal opinion is that the open-wheel guys need to stick together on
this issue.

<<<a proposal was offered to the committee to combine
all open wheeled cars and to "regionally restrict" the classes of Formula
Atlantic, Formula Continental, FSCCA, Formula Mazda, and the new Formula
1000
meaning this new open wheel race group would consist of only Fomula Vee,
Formula Ford, Club Ford, and F500. A vote using a show of hands came out
10
to
10 with several abstentions. A roll call vote was then instituted with
each
representitive citing Yay, Nay, or Abstaining and this vote came out 12 to
9
in favor of creating this new race group with some of the reps changing
their
vote and therefore the proposal was adopted.>>>
