The angle is very sensitive - I have a 40 degree model in my 'barely
still a Raptor', and I'm pretty certain that the Red Devil runs the same
40 degree model. I used Steve Moore's 40 degree HANS (Steve? Are you out
there?) to test-fit my car before I ordered mine. OG Racing(?) had a 30
degree model on-site & it didn't fit right. I believe the Invader guys
use a 30 degree model, but I suspect the seat mold will probably dictate
the angle more than anything else. I doubt the Elise is reclined enough
for 30 degrees - my rough guess would be a 10 degree model. I've been
talking to some folks about an enduro or two next year in a tin-top and
I suspect I'll invest in another HANS for those events if the plans come
to fruition.

As far as experiences go.... I got hit from behind by an F-First in Turn
One at the Glen this summer at the start of a race. My car wound up
sitting backwards in T1 & got clobbered by a FV. Took the right side off
the car, obliterated the 1" DOM Steel sidepod support, and it put a 30
degree bend in the 1 3/8" solid rear axle / 2.5" axle carrier tube
combination. The first corner worker to the car asked if they should
back-board me to get me out - I just unbuckled & stood up. They also
radioed the SOM so I would be given a Green Card because the impact
looked that bad. Not only was I unhurt at the initial accident, but I
never had any of the aches & pains afterwards that everyone else
predicted. The only subsequent pain was to my racing schedule & budget.

There's a few pics of the car-nage in the race report here:

Bottom line: run old tires, do fewer events, eat nothing but Mac &
Cheese for 6 months. Do whatever else it takes to get the proper safety
gear.

How sensitive is the angle? Do you need to measure it somehow for your
particular car/seat, or does the 30 model just cover pretty much all
F500 cars? Also, would the HANS device thats ideal for a F500 be usable
for another car? I'm kinda wondering if I could use it for HPDEs and
whatnot in the Elise.
