I can tell a pretty convincing story for either pump.

Pulse pump

Good news:
Needs no battery (weight savings)
No wires to connect (or reconnect)
Rebuildable
lighter than electric pump

Bad news:
Develops pin hole leaks in diaphragm that can mask problems
Harder to start with empty fuel bowls
Limited (although adequate) availability

Electric pump:

Good news:
Allows pre-fill of fuel bowls minimizing crank/pull starting
Provides slightly higher pressure
Facilitates purging fuel cell
Sold literally everywhere

Bad news:
Dead battery, dead pump
heavier than pulse pump
No rebuilds

I do not see the need for redundant pumps of any type.

I can do the same thing for starting solutions.

Subject: [F500] Which Fuel Pump

I've got an electric pulse pump that is nearly new and a mechanical/vacuum pump. It strikes me as being a bit overkill. Could I rely on just the electric pulse pump if I took out the mechanical? Or is there some problem with over pressure with these like I think I read somewhere?
