Forgive the poor writing. I meant to say I could NOT have driven for less
than that. Sorry.

Hi George and welcome to F500.

I bought my first F5 this time last year and it was located in Wisconsin and
I am NW Washington. Needless to say I was not in a position to go get it.

After a tremendous (and I mean tremendous) amount of research into shipping
options I found the average cost to ship the car in a crate was roughly
$2,500 plus the cost to have a crate built (another $800 or so) - ouch.
Once I got past the initial shock of this reality I remembered that I had a
business acquaintance who happened to own a UPS Store franchise. I called
him and explained what I needed to have shipped and asked if he could please
find a less expensive option. He did.

First of all DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES used the words RACE CAR when
discussing shipping and prices. Remember, if it flies, floats or f*%#s it's
going to cost a lot more. I told him I was shipping race car "replica" used
for hobby purposes. I know, I know it's almost the complete truth. Anyway,
he was able to get it on a vehicle transport truck and had it picked up and
dropped off door to door within about a week. The cost was only $1,000. If
you do the math I could drive round trip for less than in fuel/lodging costs
not to mention my time. If you can't find anyone in your neck of the woods
to make similar arrangements I can ask my guy for a contact near you who may
be able to make arrangements.

Good luck!
Sean

Another followup and brief introduction...

I've been on the mailing list for a long time now, but just reading.
So... what's the best way to get a F500 that's in Texas all the way
to Northern California? I was a thinking about a big box and Federal
Express. How about UPS?

Seriously though, is anyone headed in this direction or towards
California anytime soon with room in a trailer? I thought I'd ask
before arranging shipping.

Thanks in advance,

George
