Ed,

Nothing like that for me. My most serious on track incident was at
Blackhawk Farms in Wis. A quick right - left series of turns found me
doing a 180 in the first right. I still swear today that there must have
been oil (most likely from a FV) or sand on the track, as I didn't think I
was going through there any faster that I had for the last 6 laps or so, but
it happened so fast, that I did not even have time to put the brakes on.

Slid backwards into a tire wall at about 50, I guess. All I had time to do
was look in the rear view mirrors and see the tire wall coming and put my
head against the head rest.

After everything stopped moving, I looked around and found that I was still
in one piece and heard the engine still running. My first thought was that
I had hit the wall a good wallop and could have ripped loose a fuel line so
I switched off the engine. Didn't want any fires.

After what seemed like 5 mins, (most likely about 1) somebody from behind me
ask if I was OK. I said yea I guess. Then I ask him how bad it looked. His
reply was "not to bad" and that the wheels were still about were they should
be. As no flames were leaping up, I ask him to pull the rope and get me
started again, which he did. Off I went, not having any idea how bad it
looked back there, finished the race, one lap down.

I had a pair of bruised elbows and a headache after the race, but was able
to race again the next day less some body work.

Richard
