Rich
I've had several crashes. In most cases my thumbs actually survived but I had two severely sprained ankles and sore feet for a week after hiitting the tire wall backwards off the downhill at LRP in my S2 "In a spin both feet in"...sure. That btw is a 105mph corner in an S2 or it was back in 86. In 88 I had a young lady in a FF spin right in front of me just before the bridge out of West Bend at LRP which is another high speed section. I impacted her head-on broke both my wrists and turned the Momo wheel into a Taco pushed the front of the car including the tub almost back to the front rollhoop and sent her off backwards for another 150ft. The guys later ribbed me for "hitting" on younger women..(I was going with a girl 20 years younger than I at the time) In 84 I flipped an Atlantic end over end off the embankment at the section between the top of the uphill and the entrance to West Bend. I was trapped underneath the car (how does it feel to have the car settle on your head when the roll bar is settling into the soft dirt and grass..the fire bottle set off by the impact is slowly raising a blister from a "cold burn" on your knees and you can just picture the fuel dripping out of the carbs behind your head..talk about cockpit religion..) I had shattered my left arm and now have a steel plate holding my left arm together. I cracked my helmet in 2 places and sent it back to Bell. They sent me a new one and I will not wear anyone else's helmet as I have already "field tested" the Bell and know that it works. That kept me out of a race car for most of the 84 season until Labor Day when I got back into a GT4 Datsun 510. (You should have seen me flying my Bonanza with my left arm in a cast)The last most recent hard impact was into the wall backwards at New Hampshire when I spun the Invader at the first wet cold race of the season in April06 My thumbs didnt break but are still sore particularly in damp weather.

OK, I'm asking

I always like the incar views on TV when they show a car crashing into a
wall or whatever, of course these a almost always pro's, so maybe it comes
with conditioning, but I notice that most if not all, get their hands off
the wheel just before the big Boom.
