Sorry if I got that point wrong, but Tony Murphy said it to me over the phone a few weeks ago. He has been very helpful in exploring how to put together a 493 with reverse from new and available used parts. The main point of my post was that SCCA-legal engines for our class have become rare... you can't buy them new and only ~2% of used sleds in my 440-500 cc sample have them! As others have also suggested, why couldn't we add other similar-performing snowmobile engines from Polaris, Yamaha, Arctic cat, and other Ski-Doo sleds to the approved list? That would appear to be reasonable near-term solution while we look at more substantial changes as are being discussed in the endless "Class Survival" thread, which grew by 5 posts as I wrote this! :-)
