In looking into this bike motor thing, I checked with a couple micro sprint
guys and did find out a couple things from the people that use these motors
on a regular basis,

The Trans gears will need to be changed, but only once, need to be a
little lower ratio due to the weight and load of the cars and grip of our
bigger
tire. The oil pan can be a regular pan, but does need to be modified.

I got a couple estimates, (in pdf format/ that if somebody gives me a way
to post I will be glad to share.

The cost to rebuild a junkyard motor to a stock spec motor from a race
engine builder was 5,610 complete. That was there complete car kit that
included a used motor, rebuilt to "stock" spec with mod carbs, oil pan,
exhaust,
gear change, ect.... Again, I have a written est on all this I would love to
share. They claim a front running motor will need to be rebuilt every season,
cost about 1,300 to 1,700. But again, that's what there job is....

Now don't get me wrong I'm not at all opposed to the bike engine swap, I
think it would be cool as hell, but having said that, the torque difference
between a 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine against our weed wacker engines will be
hard to keep up with, even if the peek hp is close.

Now I know, everybody will say, "We don't need to have a pro motor builder
rebuild the engines". Well let's not fool ourselves, if we had the money, we
all would be having motor shops do our engines, I know I would! So if
getting a front running "stock" motor together is about 5,000 then add the
frame
and shock mod's, all the little stuff needed, like clutch and shifting
linkage, sprockets on the axle, and other misc stuff. I would assume the whole
cost
to put a front running car together will be about 7,000

For that kind of money, I would be better served by selling my 500,
adding the 7,000 and getting a D car with real shocks a bigger bike engine!

Again, I do like the idea, and would love to drive my car with a bike
engine, but in the real world of racing, the cost would be quite a bit more
then
just buying a motor, plugging it in and away we go.

  Flame away!
