Jeff's summation is more to addressing more immediate and more do-able
solutions..."The biggest complaint I've heard this year is that "the engine and
rules are being changed, so I'd rather wait than buy now". If you
look at the classes that do well on the low end of budget most of them
have stable rules. It's nice to exchange ideas but when it starts to
hurt the class then perhaps we should remember what makes our class
attractive".

Of all the ideas presented thus far, they can be broken into two categories,
long term and short term solutions. With very few of the latter. It's the
short term solutions where more thought/debate is needed or the class will be
gone before the long termers kick in or the class will be impacted by an
outside source, i,e. CRB/BoD.

Example: (Please excuse the commercial) The FCM F500 Challenge Cup Presented
by Hoosier races at Watkins Glen is a Regional double offering more
contingency awards (thank you Formula Car Magazine and Hoosier) then a
National race. Like awards will go to the top placing Regional drivers and
the National drivers. As a result of the effort we're betting a few Regional
drivers will help the class numbers by doing one National race in 2008.

Here's another idea, sell 50/50 tickets. Holder gets half and the race winner
gets half or maybe 1st and 2nd split 75%, 25%. Forty tickets at $5 each nets
$200. The thought of winning a 75 or 100 bucks towards lunch, beer, or gas
may bring in an entry or two.

It's about generating interest and activity now...not waiting on the new Super
Phase Electro Deluxe Razzle Dazzle 2.5 stroke to be approved and imported from
Greenland. When that happens All the classes will be fendered!

You know, compared to the national scene the SCCA open wheeled situation
doesn't look much different. Nationally the fenders (NASCAR, Gand-Am, ALMS)
are beating the heck out of ChampCar and IRL. The only national open wheeled
class with year after year solid numbers is 410 sprints. Anything to be
learned here?

PS I gotta beleive one of you out there has already called Tony Murphy about
a possible "new" engine????
