Today I took my car to a Region-wide tech inspection & was failed for my seatbelt mounting.....
The FIA-spec Whilans belts were mounted in accordance with the manufaturer's docs (mounting points at 9" width). However, I use a HANS device in the car, and the HANS instructions reccomend a 3" mounting width for the belts. The GCR does not specify a width in the written rules, however the drawing on page 76 indicates a 4" to 6" width. Now in a production car where the belts are mounted a distance behind the driver, that makes perfect sense. However, in my little formula car the vertical portion of the HANS device almost sits between the Whilan's mounting tabs (there's about 1" between the back of the HANS and the crossbar mounting point). Pulling the belt mounting tabs inward 3 inches would be nearly impossible in my opinion. So what kind of width do other folks have on their cars? Has anyone moved their mounting point in accordance with the GCR drawing? -Ted ________________________________ FormulaCar Magazine - A Proud Supporter of Formula 500 The Official Publication of Junior Formula Car Racing Subscribe Today! www.formulacarmag.com or 519-624-2003 _________________________________ _______________________________________________ F500 mailing list - [email protected] To unsubscribe or change options please visit: http://f500.org/mailman/listinfo/f500 *** Please, DO NOT send unsubscribe requests to the mailing list! ***
