Jim/All, This used to be in the GCR for cars registered prior to 1990. I'm not sure why they bother mentioning a year in the fasttrack as 1986 pretty much means all cars. Maybe it's a typo. From the previous GCR it appears the original rule was intended to bring pre 1990 cars to post 1990 cars' level of frontal protection, specifically the 0.080 wall tubes protecting the driver's legs running from the front roll hoop to the front bulkhead.
If we need to put them on they can fit under normal KBS body work, at least on a MKVII although not by much. Ted and I fitted one on last year after someone read the rules incorrectly :). BTW, this is with my pedal setting and I'm about 6'2" but I do keep my pedals closer relative to others of the same height. I'll let you know more about Craddock's bodywork after this weekend. I would imagine it will be easier to fit than standard KBS but could be wrong.
