Chuck, so you're saying that FI motor with a closed loop Lamda probe can not do it???? It really depends on which motor and how much you want to trim off. I personally think a "stock" motor would be close to the ball park, just adding weight would ballance it out. The F1000 left the engine rules wide open, not good...

Ah Bill,
Caution: restrictors probably should not be planned for motorcycle powered F600.

F1000 rules makers decided they could not use restrictors because a modern MC FI motor with stock FI absolutely cannot accommodate a restrictor.

The FI pukes fuel all over. It is an open loop system. It has to work like that.

That is why FSAE kids play with their laptops so much.

According to widly published magazine tests, those 115 to 120 HP bike motors have 106 to 108HP to rear wheels on a stock internals Suzuki or Honda 600cc.

Next year it will be more HP. Very competitive market for those cute little motors.

Anyway, thats about 9 to 12 HP loss in transmission, chain, and a tiny bit in the tire. Lets figure on 10 HP average loss.

Now we add lower restriction muffler + aftemarket tubular exhaust.
All that should be worth 2-4 HP. We'll use an added 3 HP

We are then at maybe 109-111 rear wheel HP

What do you think a 95 to 100 HP fully developed properly clutched Rotax ends up with at the rear wheels?

If we assume that a CVT is just as efficient as a bike drivetrain, then we subtract 10 HP to get 90 RWHP best case, I believe.

Thats 19 HP less at the rear wheels than using the lower HP Suzuki bike motor HP for comparison.

Lets knock off another 2 HP on the difference in efficiency since we only were flexing one tire in the bike dyno tests.

Thats why I asked "what about a Novakar with 17 more RWHP"

Thats the thought process anyway. Caution, your tuning ability may vary.....

I have been meaning to post on this issue for a couple of weeks now, but
have been very busy with my Dad's funeral stuff. I have been keeping
close communication with the local Fsae boys and have some enlightening
info. They are taking a 115 to 120hp Honda motor and strangling it down
with a single inlet restrictor (metric) that is roughly the size of a
nickel. They are claiming 80 to 81 hp on the dyno. They attach a cv
joint jack shaft where the countershaft sprocket would normally mount
and run it straight over to the dyno. Now, they are allowed big
compression, big valves, big cams and allowed to play with FI stuff. I
bet our "no internal mods" engine would be around 75hp to 80 hp. I dont
think that anyone has to worry about our possible future "crotch rocket"
engine being an overkill and screwing up the class. If someone wants to
cross post this to eformula, that is fine. I havent gotten off my butt
and subscribed , yet.
Happy motoring

Should be interesting to see what another 17 HP or so to the ground from
a
bike motor does in a car like Brian's.
