The members themselves are sometimes part of the problem :->
The MAC looked into putting a properly handicapped FF2000 (we offered all
possible handicaps to make it work) into CM and some members in CM threw the
biggest hissy fit you can imagine.
It wouldn't have mattered if we made it weigh 3000#, they just didn't want
another "type" of car in CM.
However, a f2000 configured with FA size wings, tires, and a GCR legal 2L
145HP engine in BM at 1090# should be competitive. Tommy Saunder's DSR has
to run at 1020# and has a narrow powerband. For years, he had 155 HP as did
Gendron when Gendron won BM.
A few people have run in BM with FF2000 but no one who really knew what they
were doing.
BM is a DF class. Making DF at solo speeds is extremely important to being
competitive there.

Chuck, with your vast solo knowledge and a view from the inside of rules
making at time, why has F2000 been so handicapped by the solo rule set? It
is one of the only formula classes that does not transfer fairly directly
from GCR to solo rules and it is only allowed to be a very underpowered BM
car.

Dave-My sub for RCE hasn't kicked in yet so I haven't seen the AM wing
article. The service must be waiting for the dollar to drop some more.
I did hear about 6 mo ago from a competitor of George's that there would be
an article.
Probably because he paid Mcbeath mucho dinero to go one better than George
and McBeath had to analyze George's stuff first.
I remember his telling me then that Geo had about 900# at 55 mph. What did
the article say?
Should be 3600# at 110 mph-but even with 260 HP, I don't believe that kind
of car can get to 110.
AM cars frequently DO get to 85, so that 55 mph DF number could be scaled
to
about 2150# of DF in a fast slalom.
I'll be running an EFI 900cc 2-stroke in BM to answer your other question
Rules follow below as they are proposed to be updated-not much actual
change, just a clearer way to present the rules. Been in Fasttrack a few
times now.
Basically:
Equal weight for equal cc and open wheel cars run to FA aero and closed
wheel to SR aero.
C. All open wheel (including Formula Atlantic) and Sports Racers
1. May use any automotive based 2-valve motor up to 1300cc, any 2-stroke
motor up to 900cc, any 4-valve motor up to 1005cc. Minimum weight: 1020
pounds.
2. May use any two valve automotive-based production engines up to 1615cc.
Minimum Weight: 1110 pounds
3. May use any four-valve engine up to 1615cc. Any 2-stroke up to 1300cc,
Mazda 12A rotary with any porting, any carburetion. May use fuel injection
without weight penalty as required by the GCR. Minimum weight: 1180 pounds.
4. May use any naturally aspirated engine up to 3000cc. Minimum weight:
1285
pounds.
5. Minimum rim width: none
6. Maximum Rim width width: 15 inches.
Leave D for Formula 2000 with FA wings at 1090# as it is currently, Remove
sections E and F and re-letter G as E.
E. Aerodynamic restrictions for Sports racers:
The total area when viewed from the top of all wings shall not exceed eight
square feet. The current GCR CSR and DSR 45% flat bottom rule and all other
aero specifications shall also apply to ASR. Production cars as recognized
in DMEM running in BM as sports racers must have the tires as viewed from
above at least 1/2 covered. Cycle fenders may be used to comply with a
sports racer classification.
F. Aerodynamic restrictions for Formula Atlantic (all open wheel in BM)
Shall follow the current GCR, no additional Solo wing limitations.
