Dave,
The engine is in between. Dual exhaust into a single giant muffler. If that
isn't quiet enough, I'll go to a single pipe. These days, even on a high HP
motor, one only loses about 4% . The single pipe should clutch more
efficently too-so the HP decrease to the ground may be even less.
As to corners, people sometimes forget that a slalom is actually a larger
radius corner and thats where the AM cars make and use a lot of DF.
Just that back wing alone will make an estimated 877# at 85 mph scaled up
from your magazine's 300# at 50 mph. In fact, even at 65#, that same wing
should make 500# of DF (1000# DF, F+R) so that corresponds better with the
900# total that I heard 6 months ago. I think that I may have said 55 mph
for 900# in a previous email. It was 900# F+R wings at 65 mph.
At 110 mph, the 300# at 55 mph becomes 1452# with both wings (F+R) at 110
mph assuming a balanced DF car.
So , I now revise my estimate to 2900# DF at 110 mph-but again, I don't
believe that anyone in Solo has the HP (yet) to get there with these wings.
Turbocharged Yamaha 4-stroke snowmobile motors are being used in AM cars
now, so perhaps.... Neal Stanley has about 300 HP at the crank with low
boost and has also now switched from a bike sequential tranny to a CVT. He
likes the CVT much better.
Back to wings...85 MPH in a slalom with about 1500# to 1700# of DF still
seems plausible.
Without doing the actual math for G-force delta and cornering speed
effects, a wiild guess is that this 85 mph situation for an AM car might be
in a slalom that is 60 mph in a F500.

Chuck,
I just got the magazine and haven't spent enough time in my
"reading room" to really digest the article. The short version
was the rear wing at 50 mph was making about 300lbs of
down force if my memory is correct. I know there are lots
of corners where that thing is going a lot faster than 50mph!
Did you build the engine? Is it going to be a evil sounding
drag sled engine or something mild and easy to clutch?
Dave
