Even though I used .080 on my last rebuild (entire bottom), I believe the
most popular is .060. I was anticipating use of the 493 and was trying to
avoid added ballast in favor of getting the weight down as low into the
chassis as possible. .080 may become the new "most popular" thickness.

Gene, 6061 T6 is the most common but brittle, it will crack with most
bends. If you need to bend it, find 5052, most sheet metal shops should
have it.
I think all the side pod sheets are 16 ga, I'll double check it for you,
the center belly pan is .080, and I would probably use 6061 for that.
16ga is .065.

Subject: [F500] Aluminum panel alloy
Since I'm going to be buying some aluminum to replace a couple of pieces
on my KBS Mk 5, I'm curious what alloy I should get. I'll be replacing a
rear sidepod floor panel and making stressed panels when I remove the
large, round upper cockpit tube to replace it with a higher, rectangular
tubing bar with stressed panel. It looks like all the panels are 18
gauge with the exception of the center floor panel which appears to be 16
gauge. I'm thinking either 6061 or 2024 due to their allowable tight bend
radius. Any other suggestions?
